Briefings on Coding Compliance Strategies (Single Article)

Identify aneurysm location, shape, and type to ensure correct coding
December 2007

Product Description:

An aneurysm occurs when an artery becomes filled and dilated with blood because of the pressure of the blood passing through a part of the artery weakened by disease or injury. This forces the vessel to bulge outward like a balloon or an overinflated inner tube. Patients may not have symptoms as the aneurysm develops and enlarges, but if an aneurysm becomes large enough, it is likely to rupture and cause sudden severe pain. If the patient bleeds freely from the ruptured aneurysm, shock and death follow shortly thereafter. However, when physicians detect aneurysms early, they can often use medicines or surgical treatments to prevent the aneurysm from bursting.
