From standards revisions to increased scrutiny from surveyors, JCAHO's renewed IC focus has hospitals vigilant about such hot topics as nosocomial infections and hand hygiene.
The JCAHO made it clear in January that IC would be a focus when it issued a Sentinel Event Alert on hospital-acquired infections, citing the staggering number of deaths attributed to nosocomial infections in U.S. hospitals.
The accreditor also asked surveyors to examine hospital-acquired infection rates and look at evidence-based practices to improve on IC.
