Pathogen testing at center of IC ethics debate Pathogen testing at center of IC ethics debate
September 2003

Product Description:

Although there are relatively few documented cases of provider-to-patient transmission of bloodborne pathogens, opinions in the medical community vary about requiring health care workers who perform invasive procedures to be tested for pathogens. With the JCAHO mandating that you disclose adverse health care events to the patient or the patient's family, questions also loom about whether to include the health care provider's serologic status in the disclosure if patients are exposed to the provider's blood during a procedure.

Physicians shared their views on these issues during the annual conference of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology in San Antonio, TX, in June.
