Having an ultrasound can be an effective tool for diagnostic breast imaging, but only if the practitioner uses the proper technique. "Proper technique is crucial," says Ellen B. Mendelson, MD, FACR, professor of radiology at the Medical College of Virginia, in Richmond. "Breast sonography is indispensable in the diagnosis and management of benign and malignant tumors, but it is very operator- and technique-dependent."
