Radiologic technologists (RT) or mammographers are likely to face some kind of challenge with almost every patient they see. Breasts are as individual as a person's fingerprints, and therefore every exam must be tailored to both the needs and the clinical presentation of the individual patient. Each film must show as much breast tissue as possible, from the axilla down to the inframammary area, so mammographers must know how to position each patient to include the maximum amount of breast parenchyma in each view. Small breasts-both male and female-can be very difficult to work with when performing mammography examinations. Female patients present specific challenges with both the dense and thin breasts.
