Briefings on Coding Compliance Strategies (Single Article)

How HPMP can improve your facility’s coding and compliance
December 2005

Product Description:

Free tool finds problematic DRGs, issues reports Editor’s note: This is the first in a two-part series. Next month we’ll show you how one hospital that used HPMP improved its coding and compliance. Many providers aren’t even aware it exists, but the Hospital Payment Monitoring Program (HPMP) offers free tools that can help your hospital identify areas in need of better coding and improved compliance, says Kimberly Hrehor, MHA, RHIA, CHE, project director of HPMP Quality Improvement Organization Support Center (QIOSC) for TMF Health Quality Institute in Austin, TX. Among other benefits, the HPMP generates reports of troublesome DRGs and compliance hot spots that you can use to perform targeted reviews and launch compliance improvements in your facility. Participating in HPMP allows hospitals to access hospital-specific comparative data that get updated every quarter. Many hospitals "really look forward to getting the data every quarter," Hrehor says. "It’s an ongoing way to monitor patterns and trends within the hospital."
