Recovery program may go national

In May 2005, CMS launched the recovery audit contract (RAC) project to analyze DRG assignments in California, New York, and Florida. Medicare awarded three contractors the rights to look for incorrect DRG assignments and corresponding payment errors in these states. The project has been in full swing for more than a year and is slated to conclude in 2008.
