The healthcare community recognizes the benefits of the ICD-10-CM coding system and is ready to make the switch. However, the still-vague timing of the future switch is not triggering any action from facilities to prepare for this change. "From a coding perspective, I see very positive feelings about moving to ICD-10," says Gloryanne Bryant, RHIA, CCS, corporate director for coding HIM compliance at Catholic Healthcare West in San Francisco. "I think it's time to look toward setting a definite date in legislation and making sure that the different requirements [e.g., computer testing] are written out in legislation to hold these parties responsible to make sure national implementation goes smoothly."
