Another insurer has decided to cut reimbursement for CAD, but this time it's a large national organization that has 26 million individual customers.
On October 8, UnitedHealthcare, whose parent company, United Healthgroup, is headquartered in Minneapolis, faxed members stating that it would no longer reimburse for CAD based on information that showed CAD was not effective in reducing breast cancer mortality. (See the letter below).
United's decision follows that of Oregon-based The ODS Companies, which said it was going to stop reimbursing CAD in July, but later reversed its decision after being pressured by the ACR and other organizations.
