John Butler, MD, Vice President of Medical Affairs, Dean Health System
Dr. Butler joined Dean Clinic in 2001 as an Internist, later moving to St. Maryâ€™s Hospital where he served as the Chief of the Medical Staff before becoming Vice President of Medical Affairs. Returning to Dean as Vice President of Primary Care, he led the integration of the primary care practices of SMDV. Dr. Butler is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Cincinnati, and holds a Masters in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
Mark Kaufman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Dean Clinic
Joining Dean Clinic in 1982 as a practicing general internist at the West Madison Clinic, Dr. Kaufman left full time practice in 1998 when he became the Chief Medical Officer for Dean Health Plan. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Dean Health System and as interim CEO prior to assuming the CMO role at Dean Clinic in 2007. Dr. Kaufman holds degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Pennsylvania.
Michael McGrew, Process Improvement Team Lead, Dean Clinic
Michael McGrew joined Dean two years ago after working for UW Health and the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation in Madison. He is responsible for implementing Deanâ€™s Clinic Improvement System and managing other Dean Clinic initiatives, including Primary Care Redesign. Mr. McGrew earned Bachelorâ€™s and Masterâ€™s degrees in Industrial Engineering and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Albert Musa, MD, Medical Director for Primary Care, East Region
After joining Dean in 1997 as a general internist, Dr. Musa held several administrative positions, including Chief of Staff at St. Maryâ€™s Hospital, before joining the Primary Care Redesign team in 2006. Dr. Musa is responsible for the Primary Care Medical Staff in Dean Clinicâ€™s East Region. He earned his undergraduate degree from Augustana College, received his M.D. from Rush Medical College, and completed residencies in Family Medicine and Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Musa has also achieved Six Sigma Black Belt Certification through the University of Wisconsinâ€™s Executive Education program.
Craig Samitt, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dean Clinic
Dr. Samitt, is responsible for strategic planning of the health system, as well as the financial, operational and clinical performance of the companyâ€™s 500+ doctors, 3000 staff, 60 facilities and health plan, retail and ancillary subsidiaries. Dr. Samitt previously held senior leadership roles at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, and Fallon Clinic, Inc. He received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University, his Doctorate in Medicine from Columbia University, and his Masterâ€™s in Business Administration from The Wharton School.
Steve Wilkes, Administrator for Primary Care, East Region, Dean Health System
Mr. Wilkes joined Dean in 1990. He is responsible for day to day operations management and leading cultural and operational changes. He is also responsible for program development and design around local and system processes and innovation. A graduate of the University of Kansas, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy, Mr. Wilkes also holds a Master of Science Degree from the University of North Texas.
