Faculty
Jackie Birmingham, RN, MS, CMAC, is vice president of professional services, CuraSpan, Inc. She has many years experience in Discharge Planning and has written several books and journal articles—including HCPro's Discharge Planning Guide: Tools for Compliance. Jackie has presented programs on Discharge Planning across the United States, at the Institute of Nursing at Oxford, England and at the Quadrennial Congress of Nursing in Madrid.
She was Director of Discharge Planning at Hartford Hospital from 1983-1993. In the early 1990's she was a Civilian National Consultant on Discharge Planning to the US Air Force Surgeon General, and was asked by HCFA to chair the meeting introducing the Interpretive Guidelines for the Social Security Act on Discharge Planning.Jackie was named the 2000 Case Manager of the Year (2000), was Secretary of National Case Management Society of America CMSA (2002-2003). She is past president of The American Association for Continuity of Care. She was a member of the ad hoc committee of American Case Management Association (ACMA) to develop Standards of Practice for hospital and health systems based case managers. She holds a BSN from Niagara University, an MS in Administration from the University of Hartford, and is Certified in Case Management Administration, (CMAC).
