Cynthia Barnard, MBA, MSJS, CPHQ, Director, Quality Strategies at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the primary teaching hospital of Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. Ms. Barnard is responsible for patient safety, accreditation and regulatory compliance, medical ethics, and patient satisfaction measurement. She has been a leader in developing the healthcare standards for the Lincoln Foundation for Business Excellence, an Illinois equivalent of the national Malcolm Baldrige award, and chair of the Quality Measurement Advisory Task Force of the Illinois Hospital Association.
Sallie M. Gatlin, CPHQ, Director, Quality Resource Management, Pampa Regional Medical Center, Pampa, Texas. Ms. Gatlin entered the quality field in November 1983, one month after DRGs hit the nation. Since 1988 she has directed multi-function quality departments in five hospital systems in Texas, Louisiana, and Indiana. Currently Ms. Gatlin directs the quality department at a 115 bed rural hospital in Pampa, Texas, one of three hospitals in a new for-profit healthcare system called Signature Hospital Corporation. Effective August 1, 2006 she was appointed to serve as the corporate quality consultant in addition to her hospital responsibilities. Since 1988 she has been continuously certified as a professional in healthcare quality and is currently a candidate for the Masters in Healthcare Administration with an expected completion date of December 2006.
