AUDIOCONFERENCE ON TAPE OR CD
Sponsored by The Legal Health Record Companion: A case study approach
presented on January 11, 2007
Defining the legal health record used to be straightforward: The papers in a chart were the legal business record. Now, patient data resides in hybrid form in multiple computer databases—even in multiple locations.
The lines are blurred between what is and is not a legal health record. In fact, The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) named 2007 the year of the legal health record for this very reason.
Your speakers are the authors of The Legal Health Record Companion: A case study approach, from HCPro, and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to this audioconference.
At the end of the program, you will be able to:
- define the legal health record at your facility.
- demonstrate how versioning works and how to make sure the most current, up-to-date data is available for providers
- tackle the “test patient” risk and prevent bogus information from finding its way to actual patient records
- manage authentication so it is clear who should be authenticating which documents and when this action should take place
- address the change-management aspect of moving to an EHR using actual strategies used by the speakers’ hospitals
NOTE: This is an intermediate-level program. Participants should work with and have a basic understanding of the legal health record.
The legal ramifications are many and varied—from incorporating paper, electronic, or hybrid records into a legal record—to how to amend, scan, and print records—to developing organizational policies that protect your organization in the event you have to provide records in a legal proceeding.
Whether your hospital struggles with EHR issues or you are in the discovery phase to implement an EHR, this 90-minute audioconference provides the guidance you need to manage the tough issues inherent with a legal health record.
