Rhoda Weiss, APR, Fellow PRSA, who heads Rhoda Weiss & Associates in Santa Monica, CA, is chair and CEO of the 31,000-member Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and founding president of the American Hospital Association’s Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development (SHSMD). During her 30-year career, Ms. Weiss has traveled nearly six million miles speaking and consulting to more than 700 organizations in 49 states and abroad. She has taught public relations, marketing, and fund-raising classes at UCLA Extension for more than two decades. Ms. Weiss received the PRSA Health Academy Frank J. Weaver National Lifetime Achievement Award, and the National PRSA Volunteer of the Year Award. She was the first recipient of the SHSMD’s Award for Individual Professional Excellence; was named “Woman of the Year” by Women in Health Administration, for which she also served as president; and received the U.S. Public Health Lecturer Award. Author of more than 300 journal articles and a book, she is a healthcare executive and national expert in public relations, strategy, and marketing, and a former Kellogg Foundation Fellow. Her client list is a virtual “who’s who” of U.S. health systems, businesses, non-profits, charities, and national associations and foundations outside the health field. These include large national and regional health systems; academic, community, and teaching hospitals; military and veteran's health; home care, hospice, and ambulatory services; physician groups; health plans; and behavioral health.
Kenneth G. Trester retired from the position of senior vice president of planning and marketing for Oakwood Healthcare, Incorporated, in Dearborn, MI in February 2007. Mr. Trester's responsibilities included leading all aspects of planning, public relations, marketing, and internal communications. Oakwood Healthcare System is a comprehensive regional network operating hospitals, health centers and long-term care facilities, providing services to more than 1.2 million people in 29 southeastern Michigan communities. Mr. Trester has developed a consulting practice and is currently engaged in several assignments for Oakwood and other clients. He is past chairman of the Health Academy of the Public Relations Society of America, and past president of The American Hospital Association's Society for Health Care Strategy and Market Development (SHSMD).
