Surgical Care Improvement Project

Improve Performance, Reduce Complications, and Comply with CMS

Product Description:

As CMS and The Joint Commission requirements for SCIP reporting continue to evolve, are you ready to meet them?

Surgical Care Improvement Project: Improve Performance, Reduce Complications, and Comply with CMS will help you meet the challenge. This handbook and CD-ROM set provides a one-source location to successful strategies for the Surgical Improvement Project (SCIP). It will lead you through the new CMS reporting rules on SCIP, serving as both a guide for current requirements and a road map to future SCIP measures.

This comprehensive book and CD-ROM provide:

  • In-depth information on all of the current SCIP measures—not just those tied to reimbursement
  • How CMS, The Joint Commission, and IHI relate to SCIP
  • What is required for compliance and reporting
  • Major stumbling blocks for hospitals, and how to avoid them
  • Case studies of best practice that you can implement at your facility
  • Resources where you can find additional guidance
  • Scores of tools to help you beef up compliance

Get the full Medicare reimbursement your facility deserves.

Not only will this resource help you understand how the goals and requirements are grounded in scientific evidence, it also shows how CMS has linked reporting of this data with Medicare reimbursement. Surgical Care Improvement Project also demonstrates how the goals of this initiative are aligned with The Joint Commission, which has added SCIP to its core measures, and how the IHI has included SCIP as one of its initiatives in its 5 Million Lives campaign.

Comply with SCIP, reduce surgical complications, and improve your bottom line.

A single cardiac complication can equal a $7,800 loss, and the cost to hospitals for just one patient who develops venous thromboembolism (VTE) is estimated at $18,000. Surgical Care Improvement Project will show you how to prevent these expensive complications and improve your bottom line.

Here are some of the tools provided:

  • Pocket cards for VTE prevention
  • Monitoring tools for infection measures
  • Nursing assessment forms
  • And much more!
