MEET THE SPEAKERS
William K. Cors, MD, MMM, FACPE, is an experienced physician executive with a background that includes 15 years clinical practice, 11 years executive hospital/ health system management, and experience as a healthcare consultant. He currently serves as the vice president of medical affairs/ chief medical officer for Good Samaritan Hospital, part of the Bon Secours Charity Health System in Suffern, New York. He also serves as a senior consultant with The Greeley Company.
Catherine Ballard, Esq., is a partner at Bricker & Eckler. Her practice is in the health care department, focusing on the day-to-day operations of health care facilities, their dealings with administrative agencies, and related court proceedings. She works with clients in medical staff and AHP credentialing, quality assessment/ improvement, peer review, physician recruitment and contract negotiations, compliance program development, managed care system development and implementation, and general patient care issues. She has written articles, spoken, and prepared amicus curiae briefs on behalf of professional organizations in both federal and state courts on a number of these issues.
Sylvia C.W. McKean, MD, is associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and medical director of the Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospitalist Service in Boston. Over the past ten years, Dr. McKean has received more than a dozen awards for leadership, excellence and teaching. In 2002, she was appointed scholar as a charter member of the Harvard Medical School (HMS) Academy in recognition of excellence in medical education and commitment to improvement and innovation in medical education. Most recently, she received the Society of Hospital Medicine’s 2006 Excellence in Teaching Award in recognition of outstanding teaching in hospital medicine. In addition to implementing hospitalist programs at two hospitals, Dr. McKean is currently working to develop innovative teaching programs addressing topics not traditionally covered in residency training.
