This course covers the rules for accurate inpatient diagnosis coding, including the guidelines for principal and secondary codes, late effects, signs and symptoms, and combination codes. It explains how to accurately code chronic and acute conditions as well as impending or threatened conditions. The course also explains the rules surrounding "rule out" and "ruled out".

  • Assign diagnosis code for late effects
  • Assign diagnosis code to the highest level of specificity
  • Explain the rules for assigning diagnoses documented as “rule-out” versus “ruled-out”
