AUDIOCONFERENCE ON TAPE, CD OR AUDIO ARCHIVE
Sponsored by Patient Access Resource Center (PARC)
presented on July 24, 2007
Is your response to Medicare’s new “Important Message” requirement appropriate?
CMS’ “Important Message from Medicare and Notification of Hospital Discharge Appeal Rights” goes into effect on July 1, 2007. The beefed-up rule requires your facility to issue inpatients two notices: one at admission and again at discharge; and educate patients about their rights. You’re also required to obtain a patient’s signature of acknowledgement and be able to demonstrate compliance.
Is your facility prepared? Who will issue the first notice of discharge? Who will issue the second notice of discharge? Where will you house the proper paperwork to ensure proof of compliance? And how will you train your staff to deliver these messages?
Listen to HCPro's 90-minute audioconference, and learn how to minimize administrative burden and streamline your process to stay on top of the Medicare rule. A CMS representative discusses the details of the missive, as well as how you should handle the appeal process. Additionally, two administrators from Memorial Hospital in York (PA.) outline steps their facility took to streamline their methods and prepare for any unexpected contingencies.
At the end of this audioconference, you will be able to:
- Clearly understand the requirements/consequences of Medicare’s “Notification of Hospital Discharge Appeal Rights”
- Economize your process for issuing both notices, obtaining a patient’s signature and storing the appropriate documents
- Prepare your facility for an appeal
- Explain the process to patients and their families, as well as educate your staff
Keeping your process simple and reducing administrative burden is paramount to your success in a smooth implementation of this rule. The Memorial Hospital case study provides an excellent template for you to model your own facility’s policies.
