The National Incident Management System (NIMS) sets a variety of federal requirements for community response plans, including a 17-point implementation list that hospitals must follow to remain eligible for certain emergency planning funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The implementation of NIMS (National Incident Management System) has caused much confusion in hospitals around the country. MEET THE SPEAKERS
Melinda Stibal, administrative director of trauma services, Memorial Regional Hospital. Stibal is a registered nurse who lives in South Florida with over 25 years of nursing experience. Her current role is the Administrative Director of Emergency and Trauma Services at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, FL, a large volume (72,000 annual visits) Level 1 Trauma Center. Stibal has been involved in emergency preparedness and management since the early 1990's and has taken a primary role in the development of emergency preparedness activities for her 5- hospital health care system. Stibal was a National Workgroup Member for the HEICS IV project and is currently a member of the HIC's advisory board and the Florida Hospital Association Emergency Preparedness Training Committee.
Chris Bellone is the emergency medical system region planning area coordinator for Illinois Region 1 and the emergency preparedness coordinator for the Rockford Health System in Rockford Illinois. Some of his responsibilities include maintenance, training and coordination of the Rockford Memorial Hospital’s Hospital Incident Command System program (HICS), emergency management program. He believes that complete hospital disaster / emergency preparedness success depends on community / regional collaboration and dependence.
Dr. George B. Beranek serves as an emergency physician, EMS Region 1 POD disaster medical director and director of medical education at Rockford Health System in Rockford, Illinois. He has been actively involved the Illinois Medical Emergency Response Team and he also serves as chairman of the Citywide CME Committee at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. Beranek's diversity of experiences has enhanced the regions ability to be on the cutting edge of professional development, training and preparedness.
