Kathryn A. Chamberlain, CPHQ, has more than 25 years of healthcare management experience with the North Shore Medical Center in Salem, MA, a Partners (Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women’s Hospital) affiliate. In that organization, she managed performance improvement, utilization management, and accreditation activities, which culminated in accreditation with commendation. She was also instrumental in the start-up of the North Shore Health System, an integrated healthcare organization, and was responsible for developing its Medical Management Program. For the past decade, she has been an independent consultant, assisting hospitals in New England with Joint Commission survey preparation and follow-up activities. She has been involved with more than 15 successful Joint Commission surveys.
Candace J. Hamner, RN, BA, MA, has been actively involved in Joint Commission survey preparation since 1981 in four different hospitals. Currently, she is the vice president of care management for Northwest Hospital Center (NWHC), a LifeBridge Health Center, in Randallstown, MD. In this role, she serves as the hospital’s safety officer and Joint Commission survey coordinator, and she oversees the hospital’s quality and performance improvement, Joint Commission accreditation, utilization review, risk and claims management, medical library, infection control, employee health, medical records, patient satisfaction, and social work. NWHC received accreditation with commendation in 1995 and 1998.
