AUDIOCONFERENCE ON CD AND AUDIO ARCHIVE
Sponsored by Compliance Professional's Guide to the False Claims Act
presented on December 13, 2007Be Careful What You Sign!
Understand the implications of the government’s suit against Tenet Healthcare’s former compliance officer
With the filing of a lawsuit against the former general counsel and compliance officer of Tenet Healthcare Corporation, the Justice Department sent a message to in-house counsel and corporate compliance officers around the nation: Be Careful What You Sign!
The Tenet case illustrated that compliance officers and in-house counsel have an obligation to thoroughly investigate any potential violations or allegations – in order to protect their employer as well as their own reputation and integrity. As the primary organizational watch dog, it is your responsibility to ensure that any certification of compliance is signed in good faith and after proper due diligence is conducted.
Listen to HCPro's 90-minute audioconference “Criminal and Civil Risk for Compliance Officers: Understand the implications of the Tenet case.” Healthcare attorneys Robert A. Wade, Esq., of Baker and Daniels, LLP, and Steve Bender, chief compliance officer/ general council for Trinity Health, discuss lessons learned from the Tenet case and how to use them to protect yourself from risk of potential liability.
The speakers focus on the implications of the litigation against Tenet’s former compliance officer/general counsel, the role of compliance officers in certifications of compliance, and steps compliance officers and general counsels can take to protect themselves from potential risk of liability.
