Avoid Medicare's shared/split encounter risks
This year the spotlight is on Medicare’s shared/split encounter policy. Not only does the 2008 OIG Work Plan focus on it heavily, but the government is instituting many court cases involving fraud allegations of improper billing and payment of “incident-to” services. And physicians are not the only parties being held accountable; coders are being named as defendants as well. While so much attention is being paid to this policy, HIM professionals are still struggling to distinguish between Medicare policies and regulations for private payers.
Listen to HCPro for an in-depth discussion of how to correctly document a shared/split visit and the compliance challenges and risk areas associated with it. During this 90-minute audioconference, our expert speakers explain how this policy applies to CPT codes and when they should be used. Listeners will also walk away with five bonus tools they can implement in their facility immediately, including helpful checklists, tables, and sample policies.
