MEET THE SPEAKERS
Joseph A. Miller is the senior vice president for SHM. In this role, Miller oversees aspects of membership, marketing, data management, Web services, finance, and business operations. He oversees SHM’s Practice Management course, the bi-annual survey, and staffs the SHM Career Satisfaction Task Force. Miller also does part-time hospitalist consulting for Northeast Hospitalist Consulting. He has over 30 years of management, consulting, and market research experience with healthcare organizations.
Michael L. Powe is the director of Health Systems and Reimbursement Policy for the American Academy of Physician Assistants. In that capacity he deals with health care policy issues, third party payment concerns, the Medicare and Medicaid programs, and various state and federal regulatory agencies. Mr. Powe also serves as AAPA’s staff liaison to the American Medical Association’s CPT Editorial Panel and Relative Value Update Committee which evaluates the Medicare coding and payment process. He is the author of the book, Physician Assistant Third Party Coverage, and an adjunct assistant professor at the George Washington University Division of Health Sciences in Washington, DC.
Mitchell J. Wilson, MD is the founding chairman and current co-chairman of the Non-Physician Provider (NPP) Committee for SHM, and pioneered early efforts to leverage the skills of PAs and NPs in hospitalist practices. He’s regarded as an expert in the field, and has consulted and lectured extensively on this topic. Having practiced hospital medicine full time since 1997, Dr. Wilson is currently an associate professor of medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and serves as section chief of hospital medicine in the division of General Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology. He has actively served on numerous hospital and medical association committees, as well as quality and healthcare effectiveness task forces.
