Historically, proctoring has been a part of medical
culture and medical practices as a method of both creating and verifying physician competency. However, as physicians became busier and spent less time in the hospital, its use has diminished over the past few decades. That trend is about to change due to new Joint Commission medical staff standards and the need to ensure physician competency through a standardized process called Proctoring and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation. This renewed interest in proctoring is being driven by the increasing need to ensure patient safety as healthcare safety practices are compared to other high-risk industries.
Access to, and collection of, physician performance data has been a focus in the last decade. Medical staffs across the country are implementing processes to collect and analyze data to determine physician competency. This contemporary approach to analyzing physician performance is driving hospitals to find better ways to ensure competency. Proctoring and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation is the first step in the process of appointing and reappointing privileges.
This day-long program, taught by physician and credentialing professional national experts, will provide the knowledge and tools you need to develop and implement an effective policy and program for Proctoring and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation to ensure determination of physician competency and to enhance patient safety.
