FEATURED SPEAKERS
Melissa Lehman, RN, MSN, CPHQ, currently serves as the Director of Quality and Risk Management at East Texas Medical Center Quitman, in Quitman, Texas. She’s been in nursing for 25 years, and has worked in multiple states with a wide variety of organizations. Her vast experience with adults and geriatrics has been in medical-surgical acute care, long term acute care, and critical care settings. She received her Master’s of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas at Tyler in 2006. She’s a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality and is a member of ANA, and is active in the Texas Nurses Association, serving on the Bylaws Committee. She is a member of Signa Theta Tau, Iota Nu Chapter, a member of the Texas Association of Healthcare Quality, and serves on the local association (East Texas Association of Healthcare Quality) board of directors. She has a passion for nursing and patient safety.
Kathy Duncan, RN, is currently a faculty member with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and is currently working on the 5 Million Lives Campaign as well as a faculty member for the Improving Outcomes for High Risk and Critically Ill Patients Innovation Community She is responsible for the Prevention of Pressure Ulcers and Deploying Rapid Response Team Interventions. Most recently, she served as the faculty expert for the rapid response team intervention for IHI’s 100,000 Lives Campaign in 2004-2006. She has served in a variety of staff and management positions, most recently as Director of Critical Care for a large community hospital. As Director of Critical care she led a Critical Care Initiative to decrease mortality and morbidity in the ICU, reducing Ventilator Associated Pneumonia and ICU length of stay. Most recently she led the initiative to develop and implement a Rapid Response Team in a large tertiary community hospital, which has demonstrated the ability to prevent deaths in patients outside the critical care setting. This team has reduced overall hospital mortality rate and dramatically increased survival rate after cardiac/respiratory arrest. While in Memphis she facilitated a system wide effort to develop Rapid Response Teams in the other 15 hospital entities in the hospital system and facilitates a community wide effort to develop Rapid Response Teams in competitor hospitals, currently all hospitals in the Metropolitan Memphis area have implemented a Rapid Response Team..
