About the author and reviewer...

Kirk Mathews is CEO, principal, and founder of Inpatient Management Inc. (IMI). Prior to co-founding IMI in 1997, Mathews was senior vice president of Cejka & Company, responsible for managing one of the nation's largest physician recruiting enterprises with a search portfolio of over 300 clients. His nearly two decades of physician recruiting and healthcare experience include management, sales, operations, recruiting strategy, physician compensation/benefits planning and design, and employment contract design and negotiations.

John Nelson, MD, has practiced as a hospitalist since completing internal medicine training in 1988. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Nelson also served as chief of staff at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, and as medical director of the hospitalist practice at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, WA. He served as a consultant for more than 200 institutions around the country that launched or renovated their hospitalist practices. In 1997, he teamed with a Massachusetts hospitalist to found the Society of Hospital Medicine.
