The Joint Commission's 2009 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) include more changes that ever before.
There are four new safety goals. Three focus on healthcare-associated infections and one focuses on transfusion safety. The infection-related goals have a one-year compliance phase-in period during which hospitals will be expected to meet quarterly deadlines. MEET THE SPEAKERS
KURT A. PATTON is the principal of Patton Healthcare Consulting, LLC, and a consultant for The Greeley Company, a division of HCPro. Patton served as Executive Director of Accreditation Services at the JCAHO for more than seven years until his retirement in December 2005. In this role, he worked with all types of accredited organizations seeking to be resurveyed, and new organizations seeking to become accredited.
BUD PATE, REHS, is Vice President for Content and Development for The Greeley Company; a division of HCPro, Inc. Prior to joining The Greeley Company, Mr. Pate spent fifteen years with system-wide hospital quality and compliance responsibility for Kaiser Permanente in Southern California. Before that, Mr. Pate worked for the government, where he was responsible for all acute care licensing and CMS certification activities in Los Angeles County.
