Learning objectives:
At the end of this course, students will be able to demonstrate the following learning objectives:
- Differentiate the role of the employer and employee in regard to OSHA regulations.
- Evaluate the hazards at your facility that may put employees at risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous chemicals.
- Identify the training requirements for employees at risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous chemicals.
- Plan a training process to educate employees on bloodborne pathogens and hazard communication regulations.
- Ensure that proper engineering controls, personal protective equipment, and safe work practice controls have been implemented.
- Demonstrate proper documentation of employee training, self-audits and monitoring, hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccinations, fire drills, employee exposure determination lists, sharps injuries, and other employee exposures.
- Build a working OSHA manual that meets compliance guidelines.
- Integrate safety and OSHA compliance into the culture of your facility.
Faculty:
Dr. Sheila Dunn is a nationally recognized expert in federal laboratory and OSHA regulations. She received a Doctor of Arts degree in Clinical Laboratory Science Education in 1986 and a Master of Science in 1982 from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.
Joe Laco, regulatory specialist, is a former corporate safety officer for a regional reference lab and has worked in various laboratory and healthcare environments. He received a Master of Science in Environmental Health from East Tennessee State University in 2001 and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Ohio University in 1995.
Intended audience:
Safety officers, administrators, managers, and safety committee members in all outpatient medical facilities or dental practices.
