You have myriad decision to weigh. And you need buy-in and support from numerous departments within your organization, from your own radiology technology team to the finance and executive teams that hold the power to underwrite the program.
It begins simply enough.
- Is this the right time for your facility to change to digital imaging?
- What are the economical implications of the change?
- Which digital technology is best for your department?
- How will you garner support from your facility's financial and executive teams?
- Will your own radiologists by-in to the idea?
- Will can you adapt to the change in work flow?
- How will you train staff while you maintain patient services?
How-to advice from an experienced team.
The Elizabeth Wende Breast Clinic (EWBC) in Rochester, NY, was one of the first to jump into the digital mammography arena. Two of the Center's leaders, Valerie Andolina, RT (R)(M) and Theresa Wade, MPH, ACMPE, penned this how-to manual to give breast care center directors, managers, and their organization's executive and financial teams a first-hand look at the digital implementation.
The EWBC team researched equipment and vendors, took part in clinical trials, researched equipment and vendors, and tried out several different digital systems. They did the work, run into the potholes, lived with the headaches, and juggled the glitches.
They've put it all down on paper to pass the savings on to you: time saved taking similar missteps; money saved on research; staffs' efforts saved with worksheets and other tools included in the book that they can use to ease the transition journey.
Is digital the right choice for your center.?
Clearly, digital mammography offers new opportunities to improve breast care for many patients. Digital Mammography put the issues on the table and gives you a template to work from as you have the frank discussions that will lead to your organization's decision.
Authors Andolina and Wade offer their experiences in this guide. They give you advice to embrace challenges with systems, processes, new terminology, and staff hesitations, and show you how to get past the leading curve.
