Audio Conference on CD or Audio On-Demand

Sponsored by the Healthcare Auditing Resource Center, and A Practical Guide to EMTALA Compliance

presented on March 24, 2009

More than 20 years after its implementation, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) is still a leading issue in healthcare compliance. Government auditors are stepping up compliance enforcement across the board, and EMTALA is no exception. Provisions to the law made in the final 2009 IPPS rule, as well as the OIG's inclusion of an EMTALA item in its 2009 Work Plan, make EMTALA compliance more crucial than ever.

Final IPPS 2009 Rule details EMTALA enforcement changes

The Final IPPS rule for 2009, released in October 2008, detailed new provisions to EMTALA law. Stay informed of these latest changes and listen to HCPro's 90-minute audio conference EMTALA Compliance: Analysis of Recent Changes and Strategies to Manage Risk. Healthcare compliance experts Robert A. Wade, Esq., (Baker and Daniels, LLP) and Marta G. Hernandez, BPS, HSA, CHC, RHIT (Mount Sinai Medical Center/Miami Heart Institute) use specific examples to illustrate the proper reaction to common emergency scenarios involving EMTALA, such as proper patient transfers, insurance questions, what constitutes a medical screening, and who should perform them. You will also learn tips for conducting internal audits and how to ensure your entire facility—not just your emergency department—is educated and EMTALA compliant.

Even if you are familiar with EMTALA requirements, this program will provide ideas to help make your processes more efficient and more compliant.
