Master the HINNs: Integrate Policies and Procedures into Hospital Operations
Product Description:
Audio Conference on CD or Audio On-Demand
Sponsored by the Revenue Cycle Institute
A program for patient access and financial services and revenue cycle staff members
presented on August 13, 2009
Medicare patients must be given prior written notice in order to be held liable for certain non-covered services, including those that fail to meet Medicare's medical necessity guidelines. Now revised inpatient Hospital Issued Notices of Non-coverage (HINNs) are required to let patients know that their inpatient stay (in whole or in part), or other specific inpatient services, will not be covered by Medicare. When you comply with HINN requirements, you can collect for those non-covered inpatient services from Medicare patients.
During this 90-minute, intermediate-level audio conference, our speakers show you how to implement and manage a sound HINN and related inpatient notification processes. They use case studies to demonstrate how to integrate best practices into your existing admission and discharge processes. You will learn how to train your patient access team to interact with and deliver relevant information to patients, and work with case management and clinical staff on proper documentation for the patient's record.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this audio conference, you will be able to:- Implement a practical process to identify those inpatient situations where admissions (in whole or in part) or specific services requested fail to meet Medicare's coverage guidelines prior to the admission (or additional days during a continuing stay) or provision of the specific services
- Provide additional incentives and related processes to identify non-covered services, based upon Medicare inpatient or other coverage guidelines, and to improve pre-admission or pre-service efforts to obtain and document all relevant diagnostic information
- Implement a practical process to provide prior notice to beneficiaries of potential financial liability, in the interests of fundamental fairness and customer service
