The Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies mandate that hospitals maintain their facilities in accordance with the 2000 edition of the Life Safety Code®. Surveyors and inspectors are finding that those responsible for life safety compliance don't always perform effective evaluations of their facilities, even though they think they do.
A basic understanding of the Life Safety Code® is a must, but effectively evaluating a facility for compliance can be a challenging task. HSCS '09: Meeting the Challenges to Life Safety Compliance is a 60-minute presentation where Brad Keyes, CHSP, discusses strategies to meet the challenges to life safety compliance through different methods of evaluation, the process of documenting life safety deficiencies, and the alternative approach to compliance through equivalencies.
