A good set of life safety drawings sets the foundation for tracking compliance with rated walls. Safety professionals first need to know the locations of these walls in order to effectively maintain them. While you probably realize not all rated walls are the same, did you know that not all two-hour, fire-rated walls have the same purpose? Also, in some cases smoke walls must just limit the passage of smoke, while in other situations, they may also be fire-rated.
HSCS '09: Life Safety Drawings: The Backbone of Rated Wall Maintenance is a 60-minute presentation, where Brad Keyes, CHSP, explores the fundamental differences between fire-rated walls and smoke-rated walls and the need to effectively document these walls on your fire protection drawings.
After listening to this session, you will be able to:
- Differentiate the purposes of various fire-rated and smoke-rated walls
- Explain why it is important to note wall locations and ratings on life safety drawings
Who should listen:
- Safety officers
- Facility directors
- Safety committee members
- Emergency management coordinators
- Directors of engineering
- Directors of plant operations
- Hospital fire marshals
