MEET THE SPEAKER
Wayne van Halem, AHFI, CFE, has built a career interpreting and understanding the nation’s preeminent healthcare entitlement program. His proven experience and sound counsel, captured in lectures and publications, has uniquely positioned him as a resource to partners involved in the administration, participation and oversight of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Over the last 13 years, he has worked directly with Medicare as a Fraud Analyst, Medicare Fraud Information Specialist, Sr. Investigator, and Statutory Appeals Manager. In 2006, he started his own consulting company and his practice provides counsel and leadership to healthcare providers, attorneys, government agencies, and Medicare contractors on issues related to Medicare audits, investigations, medical reviews, appeals, compliance, enrollment, billing, and education.
Karen Connor has a Masters Degree in Health Care Administration. Ms. Connor has worked in long-term care as a Director of Finance, Regional Director of Managed Care, Regional Director of Case Management and Director of Business Operations. These roles have enabled Karen to become an expert in all facets of the long-term care industry. Ms. Connor is presently the President and CEO of Connor LTC Consulting. Her consulting company, which provides seminars, educational series, operational modules and hands on training for all of the SNF needs, is currently assisting facilities on the RAC, MAC, CERT and PROBE audits. Her expertise in Medicare, Managed Care and State Medicaid Programs has helped facilities nationwide with billing, clinical documentation, audits and more importantly compliance.
