Renal Failure Coding and Querying: Understand the Clinical Perspective
Product Description:
Audio Conference on CD or Audio On-demand
Sponsored by Briefings on Coding Compliance Strategies
A program for coding, revenue cycle, and CDI professionals
presented on October 23, 2009
Acute renal failure-a major complication/comorbidity-can be difficult to code because physicians don't explicitly document the condition or other pertinent clinical details. Similarly, chronic kidney disease may suffer the same kind of fate because of lack of documented specificity and risk stratification. For example, physicians may think they've established a link between diabetes and renal failure, but they usually haven't documented this connection clearly enough to satisfy coding guidelines.
Insufficient documentation can lead to inaccurate coding, which in turn affects case mix, severity of illness, risk of mortality, and ultimately, reimbursement and compliance.
During this 90-minute audio conference, our expert speakers discuss renal disease from both a coding and clinical perspective. The program helps you understand how to find important information in the documentation that will support coding assignment or become the basis for physician queries. The speakers will identify coding guidelines for diabetes and hypertension as they relate to renal diseases and failure, and they will discuss the importance of capturing these codes to ensure complete and accurate coding.
NOTE: This is an intermediate-level program. Participants should have a general familiarity with the coding guidelines for hypertension and diabetes in relation to renal disease.
