Concurrent Therapy Challenges Under RUG-IV

Product Description:

AUDIO CONFERENCE ON CD OR AUDIO ON-DEMAND

Sponsored by: MDS 3.0 Boot Camp®

presented on April 1, 2010

Don't risk improper payment under RUG-IV and MDS 3.0

Under RUG-III, concurrent therapy minutes are counted as one-on-one therapy minutes, often resulting in inappropriate RUG classification. RUG-IV and the MDS 3.0 will require therapists to use their professional judgment to divide concurrent therapy minutes among the residents receiving the service. Ultimately, it will be very difficult to group residents into the higher rehab RUG-IV categories unless the resident is receiving a significant amount of one-on-one therapy. This change will have a negative financial impact on SNFs.*

*This excerpt has been modified from the article "What does RUG-IV mean for your facility?" which ran in the July 2009 issue of PPS Alert for Long-Term Care (PPSA).

This 90-minute program covers the concurrent therapy changes under RUG-IV, the financial and operational impacts of these changes, and how facilities can prepare.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Define the three types of therapy delivery methods
  • Identify the concurrent changes under RUG-IV and determine the impact
  • Accurately account and code for concurrent therapy minutes under RUG-IV and the MDS 3.0
  • Implement a system to track the different therapy methods by resident before the Oct  implementation of RUG-IV and the MDS 3.0
  • Prepare the facility for the concurrent therapy changes under RUG-IV and create a game plan
