Gay Howard, RN, CPHQ, CLNC, and Heather Gilmartin, RN, MSN, NP, CIC, will introduce specific tools to help you track usage of flash sterilization, as well as practical ideas to reduce reliance on the practice. They will introduce a tool to help trace the sterilization process from beginning to end. Takeaways include lessons learned from a Colorado hospital’s Joint Commission survey, which focused extensively on sterilization in the OR.

SPEAKERS
Gay Howard, RN, CPHQ, CLNC, independent consultant, The Greeley Company (a division of HCPro, Inc., Marblehead, MA). Howard has more than 30 years experience in the healthcare industry, with her expertise ranging from regulatory compliance and quality assessment to performance improvement and infection control. She is accomplished in the evaluation and establishment of quality, risk management, credentialing, infection control, and resource management programs for hospitals, managed care organizations, ambulatory care, behavioral health, home health, and long term care.
Heather Gilmartin, RN, MSN, NP, CIC, nurse epidemiologist/nurse practitioner, Vail Valley Medical Center (Vail, CO). Gilmartin has worked in infection control for 10 years, with a background in occupational health, employee health and infection control. She is the nurse epidemiologist for a 58-bed orthopedic specialty community hospital. Gilmartin is chair of the Infection Control Committee and holds certifications in infection control and advanced practice nursing.
