MEET THE SPEAKERS
Karen Stanley, RN, MS, PMHCNS-BC, is an adjunct research instructor at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Nursing. She was the principle investigator on a pilot study examining the perceived incidence and severity of lateral violence in the nursing workforce. She continues to collaborate with other MUSC CON faculty on the lateral violence in nursing project. She has previously been a psychiatric consultation liaison nurse (PCLN) at the MUSC Medical Center (Charleston, SC) and a nurse manager and PCLN in the Johns Hopkins Health System (Baltimore, MD). She is a national speaker and nursing consultant, and she provides educational seminars on topics such as lateral violence in nursing, team building, conflict management, and stress management.
Mary M. Martin, DSN, ARNP, FNAP, serves on the faculty of the college of nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where she teaches health policy and politics for BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD students and an introductory issues class for BSN students. She is engaged in research about lateral violence in nursing, bullying, and compassion fatigue, and has several papers published on this and other topics.
