How to Design and Execute Realistic Exercises and Drills

Product Description:

AUDIO CONFERENCE ON-DEMAND

Sponsored by: Hospital Safety Center

Presented on Monday, April 11, 2011

Design, conduct, and evaluate your emergency exercises to test the capabilities of staff members and protect your patients

During this 90-minute audio conference our expert speakers will walk you through an eight-step model hospitals can use to design, conduct, and evaluate your emergency management exercises and comply with The Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. As an example of the process, learn how Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center developed and executed a full-scale emergency exercise for the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Benefits:

  • Develop and design a safety plan that can be implemented quickly and effectively
  • Gain communicate techniques that ensure all staff follow directions
  • Learn techniques to involve staff at the deepest levels to guarantee the safety of patients and staff
  • Receive tools and templates to help you make efficient and effective use of time and resources
  • Learn steps to “chunk” out large full scale exercises.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify critical documents to drive the design of the next exercise
  • Create SMART objectives
  • Identify the methods for evaluation of the objectives
  • Evaluate strengths and opportunities in an After Action Report that will drive your performance improvement plan
  • Use an Improvement Plan grid to assign responsibility for improvements and track completion dates
  • Understanding and exercising the whole event from multiple standpoints will bring the institution further than exercising departments in silos
  • Understanding hospitals are 24/7 institutions, front line to senior leader staff need to be alleviated of normal operations to participate and learn during exercises
  • To hear how Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center managed 5 operating areas during a large full scale NICU evacuation exercise, how we managed accelerated timelines for exercise purposes
  • To identify the external resources around you, develop connectivity and how collaborative exercising seals commitment among partners
  • Understanding how to effectively control and manage large full scale exercises to achieve goals and objectives
